I'm a UX Designer based in Raincouver, BC.

I like creating digital experiences that make a real difference.

I believe digital products should empower users to make more informed choices, and should drive ethical innovation throughout all industries.

My Journey to UX Design

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, I moved to Vancouver in 2010 to study Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I felt myself thriving studying human cognition and behaviour, but I longed for a more practical way to apply my knowledge.

I used my time at UBC to explore different avenues by which I could apply my knowledge. I joined the Co-Op Program, which allowed me to work first as a Tour Guide and then as a Program Assistant, coordinating learning programs for the Downtown Eastside community. I also took some time abroad, studying Social and Behavioural Psychology for one year at the University of Edinburgh.

After my studies at UBC, I worked as a Public Servant for 3 years. I worked within a unit that administered the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement, the largest class action settlement in Canadian history. My work was very client-based; I spoke with a lot of survivors, listened to their stories, and helped them move their claim forward. During this time period, I also started what would turn into a nearly 3-year commitment with a Women's Rape Crisis Centre wherein I volunteered on overnight shifts, responding to crisis calls and meeting with women escaping violent partners. Again, I listened to their stories, offered support, and provided resources to help them leave their situation.

Through my professional and volunteer experiences, I realized what work I'm drawn to - speaking directly to people, forming a rapport with them, and finding key information to brainstorm solutions for their situation. I realized that my skill in communicating and problem solving with people could be applied in designing creative solutions within digital products. I decided to study UX Design to learn industry-relevant tools that could help me take those experiences and channel them to tangible, meaningful application!
